The Outsiders were an American rock and roll band from Cleveland, Ohio, that was founded and led by guitarist Tom King. The band is best known for its Top 5 hit "Time Won't Let Me" in early 1966, which peaked at No. 5 in the US in April, and the band also had three other Hot 100 top 40 hit singles in 1966, but none on the Hot 100 beyond then, and released a total of four albums in the mid-1960s.

Outsiders (Volume 3) began publication in September of 2003 and ended in 2007 after printing 50 issues. The series followed the break-up of the Titans after the events of Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day and included former Titans members Nightwing and Arsenal. The rest of the initial line-up included Jade, Indigo and Shift (an aspect of Metamorpho). The series also introduced two new characters, Grace and Thunder. Following cancellation, the team was re-organized as the second incarnation of Batman and the Outsiders.

Another Outsiders' album called "30 Years Live" was released in 1996 by a re-formed band that featured original guitarist Tom King, but minus Sonny Geraci. Predictably, it failed to gain any attention. After twenty-five years away from the music business, Sonny Geraci started to perform again and in 2007 toured under the name Sonny Geraci And The Outsiders. Into 2011 and 2012, they still had a full slate of shows booked across the United States. Sadly, Geraci suffered a brain aneurysm in April, 2012 and never fully recovered.

The third major theme that runs through The Outsiders is the use of colors in a black and white world. Adolescents have a tendency to embrace people and events as absolutes. For example, someone or something is either right or wrong; there can be no middle ground. The characters in The Outsiders are either Socs or greasers.

Needtobreathe offer up another collection of sweeping, reverent rock songs with The Outsiders, the band's first effort since The Heat earned praise from the Christian community two years prior. Such epic material has become fairly standard in the CCM world, where the influence of U2 and Coldplay is never more than a guitar riff away.

They are also outside the socio-economic level that is considered respectable. One example is that of friendship. Ponyboy and his brothers lost their parents, so their friends in their gang, the Greasers, become their family. They are each other's support system. Many of the boys do not have parents that care for them, so the boys protect, encourage, and take provide for each other instead. Ponyboy states, Or I could have gotten one of the gang to come along, one of the four boys Darry and Soda and I have grown up with and consider family.
