Return of the Boom Bap is KRS-One's first official solo album, released in 1993 on the Jive Records label. It peaked on the Billboard 200 charts at position 37 on October 16, 1993. In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. The record was originally rated 4 mics in The Source in 1993. According to KRS One the album has sold over 300,000 copies.

KRS-One adopted a more traditional approach to album-making on his first solo album. By enlisting the talents of several of New York’s most respected hip-hop producers-including Showbiz, Kid Capri, and most prominently, DJ Premier, who produced about half the album-KRS was suddenly an integral member of a rap establishment that he had spent years antagonizing

Despite a ghetto KRS-One using headphones as a mic on the cover photo, the album’s mixing and mastering sounds slicker and smoother than usual, but, other than that, it’s not much different than the other albums. He’s still a rapper with a thing for reggae who’s main objection is to uplift the black, or brown, race. A Brown Skin Woman, as far as he’s concerned, is a queen and not a hoe; though, hypocritically enough, he refers to one as just that two songs later. He compares Da Police to the overseers of slave plantations  .

He hit back at his critics with the slamming Return of the Boom Bap, his first official solo release. Leaving behind the detailed production of the last BDP album, Sex and Violence, Boom Bap returns the MC to the spare, gritty territory of Criminal Minded. KRS-One sounds reinvigorated, as well, spitting out his rhymes with fury and intelligence.

Yes YESSSSSSS!!!! Mad NICE sound quality I agree with Big-Tabs on this one! All I can say is this after looking at the product and dropping my needle on it. The presentation looks very exclusive and well put together in it's own clear sleeve with the gold Music on Vinyl sticker on the top right. However this outter clear pvc sleeve is a little delicate on the sides so you may find some with minor seam splits which is not important to me BUT The actual LP cover looks nicely put together and the clear vinyls look absolutely BRILLIANT!!! Now for the sound quality which is the most important!!! Rest assured as it's LOUD CLEAR AND CRISP.... :) COLLECTORS!!! IF YOU DON'T RUSH AND SECURE YOUR COPY NOW YOU WILL BE PAYING A LOT FOR THIS ONE IN THE FUTURE. MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO GRAB YOUR COPY BEFORE THEY RUN OUT!!!!!!!!!! peace fabwoodman :)

audio quality review please? MOV has pretty bad reputation on the audio quality.

SQ is surprisingly good. A good pressing compared to many new releases. Also clear vinyl, so pleased it sounds soo good. Get a copy before the price goes oop.

Why was the US release not issued with a picture cover?

First time buyer and a satisfied one. Order arrive promptly and in great condition. Will recommend.

'Sound Of Da Police' quite rightfully blew up massive- but also caused me to shelve this at the time, in favour of lesser exploited goodies. Listening back right now (after pulling it out the loft) there's some choice cuts on offer from Premier, Kid Capri (Stop Frontin'- choice cut) & Showbiz. KRS also mixes several tracks, to great effect, a reminder of his additional talents beyond the vocals. Perhaps not the most crucial KRS/BDP related project- but in its own right, housing some golden nuggets & definitely one for the collection.
