The adventurous trio Chat Noir has for the past 12 years defied easy categorization with its organic mix of ambient music, electronic textures as well as chamber music and jazz. Their singular approach to the piano trio, cinematic in scope and startlingly beautiful, has garnered critical raves throughout Europe. Their collective experimentation continues on the evocative Nine Thoughts for One Word. Experimentation has always been a fundamental part of our work," says bassist Fogagnolo. We would describe our journey as a ship adrift. This album has more spatial sound and compositions, which in turn may sound (paradoxically) more 'acoustic'," Cavallari explains.
Postcards From The Dark Highway (2009). Nine Thoughts for One Word (2016).
For this latest manifestation of their ever-evolving sound, Chat Noir’s co-founders, keyboardist Michele Cavallari and bassist Luca Fogagnolo, are joined full-time by guitarist Daniel Calvi, who contributed his distinctive voice as a guest on the group’s previous release, Nine Thoughts For One Word. The trio is also graced on four tracks by the ethereal trumpet of Norwegian jazz great Nils Petter Molvaer, further enriching the tapestry of electric and acoustic sounds that mesh so vibrantly throughout Hyperuranion.

Chat noir - nine thoughts for one word CD new+. Chat Noir could be a a good illustration. Their music is catchy (even if at the end of the album you will hardly remember even single tune), melodic, very melancholic, perfectly polished and extremely safe. Read - EST for Southern European market. Possibly, nothing is wrong with it. At least they are successfully balancing this (jazzy) side from elevators music (new age). But,to be honest, even if their music is pure instrumental, there are not much elements of jazz (any form of jazz!) on it at all. I have my own tag for such music - jazz for jazz-haters
