When Reprise signed him, they added four more tracks to the mix to round it out as an album. Yoakam, a Kentuckian, brought country music back into its own medium by reviving the classic Bakersfield sound with the help of his producer and lead guitarist, former Detroiter Pete Anderson. As a result, the "new traditionalist" movement was born, but Yoakam was always a cut or three above the rest, as this album displays in spades. Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. Etc. kicks off with a smoking cover of Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man," a song now so closely associated with Yoakam,.

Guitars, Cadillacs" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Dwight Yoakam. It was released in June 1986 as the second single and partial title track from his debut album Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. Et. .It peaked at number 4 in the United States, and number 2 in Canada. The music video was directed and produced by Sherman Halsey, and features Dwight Yoakam at a concert.

Groundbreaking ‘Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. album was released 30 years ago, on August 19th, 1986. Long before Renaissance man Dwight Yoakam was selling over 25 million records and making an impression on movie audiences in films like Sling Blade, Panic Room and South of Heaven, West of Hell (which he also co-wrote, directed and scored), the genre-blurring Buck Owens devotee was just another young upstart excited to finally be releasing his first record.

This album was just a hint of what was yet to come in following years from Dwight; They broke the mold when Mr Yoakam arrived on the scene, and staying true to form, Dwight continues to use the same formula in his musical releases as he did with this first album. It's well worth your time and money; give it a listen.
