The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on May 27, 1963 by Columbia Records. Whereas his self-titled debut album Bob Dylan had contained only two original songs, Freewheelin' represented the beginning of Dylan's writing contemporary words to traditional melodies. Eleven of the thirteen songs on the album are Dylan's original compositions.

Because Bob Dylan is so hugely and quixotically himself, he is able to fill all the space the talking blues affords with unmistakable originality. In this piece, for example, he has singularly distilled the way we all wish away our end, thermonuclear or "natural. This album, in sum, is the protean Bob Dylan as of the time of the recording. By the next recording, there will be more new songs and insights and experiences.

Talkin' World War III Blues: This song is written after Bob Dylan experienced a bad dream about World War III. Very that there will be a 3rd one anyway so don't worry. Intro: D, G, E, G. G Some time ago a crazy dream came to me

Bob Dylan was already the darling of the modern folk movement when he released his second album on May 27, 1963. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is the LP that delivered on Dylan's early promise and provided his springboard to legendary status. Word was already spreading fast about Dylan when the 20-year-old folksinger released his self-titled debut album in 1962. There was a folk music boom in the late '50s and early '60s on college campuses and in cultural centers like New York City gathering around aging, fading or just plain dead singers from earlier generations.

Where Bob Dylan was cut in just two days, this album was crafted over no fewer than eight separate visits to the studio, spanning a full year from April 1962 to April 1963. Over the course of those months, he continued to revise and refine the song selection, trying desperately to keep up with the breathtaking, high-speed evolution of his writing. Though the world didn’t know it yet, Dylan had been writing songs nonstop since arriving in New York in 1961. He was writing all the time, at night sitting in the clubs, says Peter Yarrow. But around the world, the reverberations of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan were enormous. In Winnipeg, Manitoba, a kid named Neil Young heard the album and, as with so many others, considered entirely new possibilities for his life. I just said, ‘Hey, there’s a guy who sounds different doing his thing, too – I really like this guy. I can write songs.
