I really like the album and Louis Cottrell was a fine clarinetist. I would say this-and mean it-even if I didn't produce the session. Louis Cottrell was the complete opposite. A dignified man who embraced the music he loved, his trio came in and just played wonderfully, but he was no showman. Danny was the waiter who taught me the job. Danny had been a jazz clarinetist who had a small jazz band in the 50s.

Bourbon Street Parade (3:01) 03. Three Little Words (3:31) 04. Sayles' Broken String Blues (4:27) 0. Cottrell certainly filled that bill. An important figure in the history of traditional jazz in New Orleans, he was a virtuoso on both the clarinet and tenor saxophone, playing with the top players of his day, including his mentor, clarinet player Lorenzo Tio, J. and drummer Paul Barbarin. For the occasion of this record, Cottrell engaged the assistance of Emanuel Sayles on banjo and guitar and McNeal Breaux on bass (Alcide Pavageau plays bass on one track). The results are simply elegant. The album opens with the beautiful "Perdido," and gets lively with a Barbarin street march, "Bourbon Street Parade. It segues through some delightful blues and standards, such as "Sayles' Broken String Blues" and "Sheik of Araby.
