Billy Ward and his Dominoes were an African-American R&B vocal group. One of the most successful R&B groups of the early 1950s, the Dominoes helped launch the singing careers of two notable members, Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson

This collection embraces the pop-oriented ballads and occasional standards recorded by the quintet between 1950-1955, fronted by Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson, McPhatter's successor. Wilson's only claim to lead work on this collection is his reading of "Tenderly. The CD version is an exact facsimile of the similarly titled original King LP, and duplicates two 1977 Gusto reissues.

Sonny aka ‘Jackie’ Wilson is the lead tenor on. First up ‘A Little Lie’ by the Dominoes from 1954. Although Jackie Wilson is given top billing on this collection of King and Federal releases, he was a relative unknown when he replaced the great Clyde McPhatter in Billy Ward & the Dominoes in 1953.

Prior to leaving the Dominoes, McPhatter coached Wilson on the sound Billy Ward wanted for his group, influencing Wilson's singing style and stage presence. Record stated that he asked Tarnopol for advanced money on a recording in 1972 when an associate of Tarnopol's, whom Record identified as Johnny Roberts, asked Tarnopol "should I twist his nose off?"
