Notes

"The Maggot" was produced at Louder Studios, San Francisco, California. January 1999.

Track 16 contains a hidden track (track 16.3). Track 16.1 lasts for 4:31 before a period of silence. The hidden track is kind of a teaser for The Bootlicker, an alternative instrumental take of "Toy", the first track on part two of the trilogy.

This is PART ONE of a whole.
The bootlicker is part two.
The crybaby is part three.

Melvins are an American rock band whose early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal. The band formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. They have mostly performed as a trio, as well as a quartet with either two drummers/bassists in recent years. Since 1984, vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover have been constant members. The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, Washington, where Osborne also worked as a clerk

The Maggot was released in 1999 on Ipecac Recordings. Melvins - Producer Tim Green - Engineer, Producer. This album is part one of a trilogy: The Maggot, The Bootlicker and The Crybaby. The Trilogy was released on vinyl by Ipecac Recordings on November 27, 2000 (IPC-011). On the CD version all songs are spilt to two tracks.

Their first release on Mike Patton's Ipecac label, The Maggot is the inaugural release of a trio of albums that were recorded at the same time and issued over the span of several months, the other releases being The Bootlicker and The Crybaby. Unlike most other alternative/heavy metal bands of the '80s and '90s who eventually experimented with other musical forms and approaches, the Melvins have stuck to their patented brutal and detuned sludge-rock throughout the years, and The Maggot is no different.
