Blonde On Blonde's sound has rooted firmly in UK psychedelia with a progressive edge, they mixtured a wide range of influences and echoes of The Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Hendrix or The Who lived in perfect harmony with touches of The Incredible String Band imagery in their lyrics. Reflections On A Life is the album in which all the contrasts that make the Blonde On Blonde sound go further ahead in adventure and experimentation, includig surreal out of this world touches a la Syd Barrett

Blonde on Blonde was a guitar-led psychedelic rock group from South Wales. The band was formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson. The band was named after Bob Dylan's 1966 album of the same name. In 1968 the quartet left Wales for London, and was joined by guitarist Simon Lawrance, playing clubs such as Middle Earth and appearing on the BBC TV series How Late It Is. Signing to Pye Records, they released their first album, Contrasts, produced by Barry Murray, in 1969. In 1971 Richard Hopkins left and was replaced by Graham Davis. Blonde on Blonde's final album Reflections on a Life was released by Ember Records in 1971, but the band achieved only modest commercial success. They disbanded in early 1972.

This incarnation of BLONDE ON BLONDE recorded October 1971's "Reflections On A Life" album at Monmouth's Rockfield Studios. That album goes most far in thematic contrasts, having their most experimental sounding moments in SYD BARRETT resembling alienation and madness in it, coupled with straight boogie parts and beautiful melodic patterns. Group members: Gareth Johnson - lead guitar, sitar, lute, electronic effects (1967-71) Richard Hopkins (aka Richard John) - bass, keyboards (1967-71) Ralph Denyer - vocals, guitar (1967-70) Les Hicks - drums, percussion (1967-71) David Thomas - vocals, guitar, bass (replaced Ralph Denyer) (1970-71) Graham Davies - vocals, guitar, bass, banjo (replaced Richard Hopkins) (1970-71).

Blonde on Blonde, taking their name from the then-new Bob Dylan album of that title, were spawned in 1967 out of a Welsh blues-rock band called the Cellar Set. Gareth Johnson played the guitar, sitar, and lute, while Richard Hopkins handled the bass, piano, harpsichord, cornet, celeste, and whistle, and Les Hicks played the drums. The addition of Ralph Denyer made them into a quartet with vocals; and Simon Lawrence, an alumnus of Roy Harper's and Al Stewart's early recordings, was with them briefly, as well, on 12-string guitar.

Original vinyl copies of Reflections on a Life now demand huge sums among collectors, based upon the quality and originality of the music within.
