Born Like This is the sixth studio album by British-American rapper/producer MF Doom. It was released under the pseudonym "DOOM" on March 24, 2009 through Lex Records. It debuted at number 52 on the Billboard 200 chart, having sold 10,895 copies as of March 29, 2009. In addition to tracks produced by MF Doom, the album includes production by frequent collaborator Madlib, as well as J Dilla. The album title is borrowed from Charles Bukowski's poem "Dinosauria, We," which employs it as a cadence.

So, The Doom mythology continues with "Born Like This". I'm going to start this off and say I do not believe that this is one of Doom's best offerings. I like Doom putting his tyrannical iron hand on solo tracks over him going bar for bar with other MCs because I believe that the rpm of how he delivers his poetry (as well as his syntax) does not match up to the styles of those that he allows to hop on the track with him in Castle Doom, Latveria. The album maintains a really high standard throughout, with some amazingly inventive tracks. Standout tracks are perhaps the explosive "Gazzillion Ear" (sampling J Dilla), the astro-sounding "Absolutely", which details the intelligence and subtlety of his lyrical prowess (a Madlib production), and the relentlessly pumping comedic track "Microwave Mayo".

The best verses were delivered by Slug (which made me wish Doom would have stayed on Rhymesayers for more opportunities to hear gems like this), Empress over Doom's instrumental was a great combo of wit, knowledge, and lyrical murder and the Wu legends Starks (Just make a remix DoomStarks EP already compiled of the tracks you guys already have made ! Hip-Hop is waiting anxiously !) and Rae.The instrumentals were an interesting mix : Empress over Doom's instrumental on "Still Dope" was a great combo of wit, knowledge, and lyrical murder. There were some takes on some Dilla tracks that I believe were altered post-mortem. On some of these tracks Doom evoked some visible self-hatred regarding his Afro lineage and being not so proud of being an American, favoring his British lineage more so. Perhaps, "Born Like This" is a peek behind the Mask - a prequel if you will to "Doomsday" ... and this record if anything showed me more that I prefer Doom mask on, and that he knew that of his base supporters since he first looked through the metal.

The MM.. Food pressing they're doing won't have original samples afaik, do you know if this one will have any of those problems?
Maveri
Stop selling the repress as O.G you crooks. 10 percent of these so called Mint Sealed releases were here a year ago.
Quinthy
The vinyl is surprisingly thin/light. Not sure the actual gram weight but regardless, thankful to LEX for the reissue.
Sironynyr
True, but no complaints though. Pressing sounds fine, I also had the original before this one.
Black_Hawk_Down
Danger Mouse reissue isnt 180 gram either, but mastering above weight because this lp sounds awesome!
Qusserel
It is, but damn does it sound good. Just goes to show how weight is not an indicator of sound quality at all.
caster
first press vinyl sticker on shrinkwrap has circular corners, while this new repress has a square sticker, otherwise identical

Lex Records repress this LP !!!You can buy a new copy in pre-order on their webside : http://shop.lexrecords.com/collections/vinyl-1/products/born-like-this-vinylToo bad for those who sell it at an indecent price ;))
Kulasius
The original pressings of all DooM's LPs fetch high prices. That is the penalty for sleeping on a dope album. Pay up or wait for a re-issue and hope it stands up to the O.G.
ChallengeMine
anyone know why some copies come with a sticker covering the doom photo on the back?

This album is as good, if not better, than any of Doom's previous albums. And that means a lot given the high quality of his work. Lyrically the album is light years ahead of most hip-hop artists and he really sets the bar here in "Microwave Mayo": "His own way was strange but it matters not, tuned into a frequency tone that shattered rock, Hold it down like Shatner do Spock, rapper-jocks need to put a sock in their chatterbox, The block got line of VIAC stock, Folks gather 'round there's no joke like knock, knock".Highly recommended for Hip-Hop lovers and aficionados, Doom fans and anyone who appreciates a great artist at the peak of his powers!
